Happy Memorial Day!  You may ask yourself, “What’s happy about a sad day?”  I contend you will find happiness in the cherished treasured memories of your loved one(s) no longer with us in this realm.  Allow yourself to mind travel (without a mask – hee hee) and relive a joyful occasion.  Recall the smile in your beloved’s eyes, the sound of their laughter, the sensation of their touch – the pure magic of being alive.  Isn’t that what they would want for you now?  Magic in being alive!?  Wouldn’t that make you happy?  I claim YES!

Ironically (or not), I just finished reading a book about being alive and looking for happiness.  I would have to put the book in “my top five books of all times” in the “thought provoking” category.  I read at least one book a week and I love a book that just lingers that I blab to everybody I meet about, so, I am going to tell you all about this one.

It is not written as a spiritual book.  It is categorized as a novel; yet it is profoundly spiritual.  The name of the book is The Midnight Library by Matt Haig.  I actually listened to the book and the British reader was brilliant.  Amazon calls it The New York Times bestselling WORLDWIDE phenomenon.  This is what they have to say about it,  “Somewhere out beyond the edge of the universe there is a library that contains an infinite number of books, each one the story of another reality. One tells the story of your life as it is, along with another book for the other life you could have lived if you had made a different choice at any point in your life. While we all wonder how our lives might have been, what if you had the chance to go to the library and see for yourself? Would any of these other lives truly be better?

In The Midnight Library, Matt Haig’s enchanting blockbuster novel, Nora Seed finds herself faced with this decision. Faced with the possibility of changing her life for a new one, following a different career, undoing old breakups, realizing her dreams of becoming a glaciologist; she must search within herself as she travels through the Midnight Library to decide what is truly fulfilling in life, and what makes it worth living in the first place.”

Thanks to my sister Patty for recommending the book to me.  If you have already read it, I would love your comments below!  And if you haven’t read it, I believe you are in for a treat!

Continuing on the theme of books…Recently I attended an outstanding workshop led by Suzanne Giesemann that I have previously blogged about.  She sends out daily inspirational messages and below is one that I found to be particularly apropos. And more about books…

Downtown Mountain View where I live has the most delectable spiritual bookstore I have ever been in.  I am so excited that I am now working there one day a week!   Who knows, maybe one day my book will be on the shelf!  I’ll leave you with my spiritual principles for healing grief:  know, love, forgive, trust, and flourish.

This is a “stuffed” Buddha from “my” store sending flourishing vibes your way on this Memorial Day!
