If you said the word “crystal” to me a few years ago, the first thing that would pop into my mind would be the song, Crystal Blue Persuasion by Tommy James and the Shondells in 1969.  The second thing would be Crystal Gayle the county-western singer noted for her floor-length hair and the hit record in 1977, Don’t It Make Your Brown Eyes Blue?  Talk about a trip down memory lane…

If you said the word “crystal” to me today, I would think about my part-time job at the metaphysical bookstore where we sell crystals by the bucket loads – including blue ones!  We sell little crystals for $1.00 and have one 800-pound cluster in a rare single piece for $250,000.  Yes, that is correct – $250.000.00!

I have gone from knowing little about crystals  to sleeping with them!  (Shhhhh – they are under my pillow.)  Now, I want to share a bit about what I have learned in case it might benefit you.  If nothing else, I hope you find the information intriguing.

What exactly are crystals anyway?

Crystals are natural solids that are made from minerals and are formed in the earth’s surface.  Even though there are oodles of variations, each has a precise atomic arrangement.  They can be identified by their color, hardness, and mineral composition.  And I think they are beautiful!

How do crystals “work?”

For years there have been mystical, magical, and semi-scientific speculations about how they “work” or heal.  Today it is widely understood that crystals work through the human energy system or chakra system (see chart below) and the aura, and not through the physical body.  (Until a few years ago I did not know what an aura was and then I started seeing them – including my own.  I saw my own energy.  That will make a believer out of you!)  “Crystals channel energy.  They can focus, store, transmit, and transmute this energy and it can be used for beneficial healing and energizing effects,” according to the little book at “my” store, Crystal Healing by Philip Permutt.  The book also claims that it can speed up healing – especially in older people.  I hate to admit it, but according to their age chart; I am now “an older people.”

Healing

As well as speeding up physical healing, crystals are said to quicken mental health, release emotions, and aid in spiritual development.  Sounds good to me!

Let me give you one example about the stone Hematite.  I was reading in the book that studies indicate Hematite  aids in circulatory problems such as Reynaud’s Disease.  That stopped me in my tracks because I have been told I have Reynaud’s syndrome and I had never even heard of it before.  (When I get cold, my fingers turn purplish.)  Hematite supports the kidneys in cleansing the blood and regenerating tissue.  It stimulates the absorption of iron and the formation of red blood cells.

Another stone I was reading about was the Amethyst.  I was drawn to the Amethyst because purple is my favorite color.   The guide says that Amethyst relieves an individual from stress and strain, soothes irritability, balances mood swings, dispels anger, rage, fear and anxiety and it helps with Parkinson’s Disease.   I was recently diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease, so thus – it is under my pillow and now you know why I am sleeping with it!  You might be skeptical like me and are asking yourself, “What if it doesn’t work?”  My question is, “What if it does!?”

The scientific evidence:

Crystals are used in rockets, guidance systems, Mars rovers, lunar landers, lasers, computer chips, watches, and more.  It sounds like rocket science to me, but it’s really quite basic.  Crystals vibrate.  They hold heat, electricity, and focus light energy.

Chakras

Chakra is a word that means wheel in the Sanskrit language.  It is where two or more channels of energy cross in the body, so they become energy centers.  To people who can see energy, they appear as balls or wheels and thus the name.  Stones correlate to the different centers.

Just for fun, here are the lyrics to Crystal Blue Persuasion:

Look over yonder
What do you see?
The sun is a-rising
Most definitely
A new day is coming (ooh, ooh)
People are changing
Ain’t it beautiful? (Ooh, ooh)
Crystal blue persuasion
Better get ready to see the light
Love, love is the answer (ooh, ooh)
And that’s all right
So don’t you give up now (ooh, ooh)
So easy to find
Just look to your soul (your soul)
And open your mind
Crystal blue persuasion, hmm, hmm
It’s a new vibration
Crystal blue persuasion
Crystal
Blue persuasion
Maybe tomorrow
When he looks down
On every green field (ooh, ooh)
And every town
All of his children
And every nation
There’ll be peace and good brotherhood
Crystal blue persuasion, yeah
Crystal blue persuasion, aah-aah
Crystal blue persuasion, aah-aah
(Crystal blue persuasion, aah-aah)
And just for more fun, share any experiences you have had with crystals.  Thanks!

Dianne, I have an interesting story about Amethyst. Years ago a friend sent me flowers, or it could have been a plant – after we had not spoken after an argument. It could have been around my birthday. Anyway, when I went to water the plant….I found a beautiful Amethyst stone. My first thought was , What a lovely gift! I called and thanked her…..She admitted it was not her doing. So, I called the Flower Shop to ask them if anyone lost a stone. NOPE! So, it was mine. I had a gorgeous ring made out of it and wore it for years. However, one, not so fine day, we (I was newly married at the time – living in Tacoma, WA) were robbed while vacationing in the Desert, and many things were taken – 1/2 our furniture and most of David’s clothes. A cupboard full of liquor which was deposited at our place from David’s folks who had recently moved to the Desert. Obviously a male break-in. Tai, my Step-son was hanging around with some shady characters at the time.
AND, out of all my jewelry – the only thing taken was the Amethyst ring!. Obviously, it was mine to wear for a very short time. We never found out
    who did the dirty deed.
One thing I know…If I ever saw that ring again – I would recognize it immediately.

THANK YOU this was so very informative and helpful. I have a better understanding of crystals…esp this week since I had vertigo! I will now own them! My prayers for your diagnosis of Parkinson’s. 🙏🏻 And I played Crystal Blue Persuasion and it brought back so many memories…I had no idea of the exact lyrics but it’s in my catalog now! We need that now in our world. Finally, you would make a great Crystal Gayle for Halloween 😂😅🤣🥰😍😘
